Roof cleaning prices in Welwyn
A photo or two on WhatsApp to 07429 744826 is usually all we need to price your roof. Towers and ladders are included.
Why moss is worth removing
Moss holds rainwater against your tiles, so they stay damp for days after a shower. On clay tiles, staying damp for longer makes the face of the tile more likely to flake.
As it spreads, moss can fill the channels where tiles overlap and slow the rain on its way off the roof. Clumps break loose and wash into the gutters, and a blocked gutter can overflow down your walls and cause damp patches.
Taking heavy moss off before it affects drainage is part of normal roof upkeep, and it lifts the look of the whole house.
How we clean your roof
Send us a photo
A photo or two on WhatsApp is usually enough for us to price your roof.
Towers and ladders up
We reach the roof from our own mobile scaffold towers and ladders.
Moss removed by hand
The moss is taken off the tiles by hand.
Biocide finish
The cleared roof is treated to kill the algae and lichen left on the tiles and help slow regrowth.
Conservatory roof cleaning in Welwyn
Conservatory roofs collect leaves, bird droppings and green algae, especially under trees. Dirt also settles along the bars and gutters, where rain rarely shifts it.
Conservatory roof cleaning is from £80. Send us a photo and we'll confirm your price.
Want your conservatory windows cleaned too? That's from £10 extra on a window clean.
Solar panel cleaning in Welwyn
Rain rinses dust off steep panels, but bird droppings and lichen stay put, especially on shallow panels and panels under trees.
A small dropping matters. The cells in a panel are wired together in a row, so one covered cell can hold back the whole row.
Solar panel cleaning is from £80. Send us a photo showing how many panels you have and where they sit, and we'll price them.
Why we don't jet wash roof tiles
A high-pressure jet can wear away the surface of a tile, strip the colour from concrete tiles, and force water up under the tiles into the roof space, especially when it's sprayed up the slope. Tile manufacturers and the roofing trade advise against it.
So the moss comes off by hand. It takes longer, but it's far gentler on your tiles.
The biocide finish
Removing moss by hand clears what you can see. It can't reach the algae and lichen in the surface of the tiles, and algae are usually the first thing to turn a clean roof green again.
The biocide kills that leftover algae and lichen and helps slow regrowth. Green algae die back quickly. Dead lichen and marks fade over the next few weeks, and the darkest stains can take a year or more of rain to go.
Very old concrete tiles that have lost their original surface won't look brand new after cleaning.
Our own towers and ladders, included
We own our mobile scaffold towers and ladders and bring them to every roof job. They're included in the price, so there's no scaffolding to arrange and nothing extra to pay for access.
The same kit gets us up to your fascias and soffits.

Questions about roof cleaning
How much does roof cleaning cost?
Roofs start from £400. The price depends on the size of the roof and how much moss is on it. A photo or two on WhatsApp to 07429 744826 is usually all we need to price yours. Conservatory roofs and solar panels are each from £80.
Do you pressure wash roofs?
No. We don't jet wash roof tiles with a high-pressure washer. The moss is removed by hand, then the roof gets a biocide finish.
Does the biocide kill moss?
The moss itself is removed by hand. The biocide is for what's left in the surface of the tiles: it kills algae and lichen and helps slow regrowth. UK surface biocides are labelled for algae, lichen and mould rather than moss, so we don't call it a moss killer.
How long will my roof stay clean?
No treatment lasts for ever. It depends on shade, nearby trees, which way the roof faces and how damp it stays. Tile makers suggest checking your roof at least once a year and maintaining it every three to five years, or sooner on shaded or damp roofs.
Do I need to arrange scaffolding?
No. We own our mobile scaffold towers and ladders, bring them with us, and they're included in the price.
Should I have my gutters cleared after a roof clean?
It's worth doing, because moss and grit from the roof end up in the gutters. We clear gutters with our gutter vac system: £60 for a 2 bed house, £80 for a 3 bed and £100 for a 4 bed.
What about my garden and pond?
A biocide is made to kill living growth, so it needs care. Traces keep washing through your gutters for weeks to months afterwards and can harm plants and fish. If a downpipe from the roof feeds a pond or water butt, tell us when you book, and keep that water butt disconnected for the season.
Which areas do you cover?
We're based in Welwyn, Hertfordshire (AL6), and cover Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Essex.
